Description
American Toads In Love
Ran into this pair of American toads in the act of procreating along the outside of Italian Gardens pond which overflowed. You can see their eggs she is laying all around the toads.
Toads breed between February through April creating long parallel strands that resemble strands of black beads. The eggs take approximately seven to 10 days before their eggs hatch unless they absorb more heat, which accelerates the process. Toads undergo metamorphoses on the day of hatching, characterized by loss of the gill pouch, and digestive adaptations that help them to thrive on land.

Oh how I love this one of American Toads in Love Carol ! One of my very earliest memories when I was two or three was of discovering a toad in the garden and the magical feeling that it came from another world, like it just dropped in! Your marvelous image did even more than that, as they dropped in, one on top of the other! That moment still fills my senses with the vast miracle of life in its myriad forms. GREAT picture. Thank you! L/F
