Description
Bull Elk 2018 In Black And White
Bull Elk of 2018 rut is grazing after a battle to fight another day. The rut is a time where bulls fight for their right to mate.
Elk can be found now off 441 near and around the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. They have spread from their transplant spot of Cataloochee.
In the Great Smoky Mountains, National Park at the east end is the Cataloochee Valley. At one time the mountains of the Southern Appalachia were home to elk but were eliminated by overhunting and loss of habitat. In 2001 twenty-five elk were reintroduced to the area. You can now see elk in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park visitor center in Cherokee, North Carolina.

Excellent capture of this regal creature. The eye is crystal clear. Love how you can see the shadow of his antler on its back
