Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site contains 264 aces which includes the goat farm, barn, out building of the working farm, Sandburg's residence, chickens, barn cats, rolling hills, aces of trails and two ponds.
In 1945 the Carl Sandburg and his family moved to Henderson County North Carolina for the peace and solitude required for his writing and the more than 30 acres pastureland required for his wife, Lilian, to raise her champion dairy goats." Today, the legacy of these goats live on Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site which the national park system breed from the original herd.
