Description
I spotted two doe and a buck way out in the field when I noticed they were heading to the stream. I stayed on the loop road waiting to see what they would do next. The doe went under the fence while the buck decided to jump the fence. Photographing with a lens over 600mm I would have loved to step further back, but by then the traffic was piling up behind me, so I had to take the shot!
Cades Cove located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located in Tennessee. Cherokee had established a settlement in Cades Cove known as "Tsiya'hi," or "Otter Place" around 1797 or much early. As European settlers moved into the valley and surrounding area, the Cherokee were pushed out, and their land was taken away from them. The Treaty of Calhoun (1819) ended all Cherokee claims to the Smokies Mountains. Some Cherokee remains attacking settles until 1838 when they were rounded up and sent on the Tail Of Tears to the Oklahoma Territory.
Cades Cove is a popular destination for tourist wanting to see wildlife, but come early or later in the day as most of the wildlife will be sleeping during the heat of the day.
