Description
Portrait Of A Osprey
This osprey was sitting up on an old telephone pole watching and looking for an opportunity for food which was more important than me photographing him.
It is very common seeing osprey hanging out on top of poles, dead trees, platforms, and artificial nest sites in Florida where they are covered with sticks and twigs for nesting. The birds are always watching the waters around them for their next prey. Known as fish hawks the osprey will then swoop down on its prey using extended talons. These beautiful birds capture saltwater spotted trout, catfish, mullet, shad, crappie and sunfish from coastal habitats and freshwater lakes and rivers for their diet.
Often times you can a you drive you will see nesting pairs during summer taking turns fishing while one stay in this nest taking care of their young. Nesting takes place during summer months as eggs incubate.
