Snow adds a stark contrast to this North Carolina country red barn. How we love red barns in the snow!
Why do red barns dot the country side? By the late 1700's farmers started to paint their barns with a mixture of skimmed milk, lime and red iron oxide created a rusty-color. This was cheap, lasted longer, and farmers found it kept their barns warmer.

Wonderful image....The red barn is stunning, but I think the yellow grass along the fence helps this image a lot.
