Description
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park's old Cable Grist Mill in Cades Cove among the blue skies and dogwoods.
The grist mill in Cades Cove was built by John P. Cable in 1868. He also built and operated a sawmill around the same time utilizing the same wheel for both mills. John was a farmer as well, and when he was out tending his fields customers would ring a large bell that was mounted on a pole. Today the grist mill is operated by the Great Smoky Mountains Association which grinds corn and wheat with the sell in the park.
