Description
Sunset at Lickstone Ridge Overlook on the Blue Ride Parkway
Lickstone Ridge Overlook faces directly west on mile milepost 458.9.
The overlook is filled with history of Qualla Indian Reservation. The Cherokee land extended beyond the distant mountains. The white man worthless treaties and promises ripped them from their land and homes to Oklahoma Reservation known as the Trail of Tears. Those Indians who evaded and escaped their captures fled into The Great Smokies. These Indians formed the Eastern Band that lives on the Qualla Reservation in the valley below.
The US Department of Interior National Park System placed information on the people and heritage of the Eastern Band of Cherokee on the Lickstone Ridge overlook. Please stop, and be respectful and mindful of how the white man treated our Native Americans.
We cannot change the past, we can only learn from our past.
