Description
The Conservatory In Winter
The conservatory is a greenhouse for growing or displaying plants.
The glass structure was designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt, stands as a symbol of the turn of the century’s passion for horticulture. The design incorporates six rooms, plus two small rooms. The main section houses large trees, like palm trees and to the left is visitors favorite, the orchid room.
As you stand for some time you can hear the windows mechanisms opening and closing to keeping each room at different temperatures.
As you can see the walled garden vegetation is sparse making the conservatory a great place for the Vanderbilts in days gone by and visitors alike during the winter months.
