Description
Nashville's Union Station is an example of late Victorian Romanesque Revival architecture open it's door to passengers in 1900. The station provided service to passengers for eight railroads heading to Nashville Tennessee. The station also reached its hay day during WWII moving out tens of thousands of US troops. After the war Union Station like most train stations started to decline. By 1960's only a few trains ran through Union Station, and by 1976 the station was abandoned.
Falling into further into decline and the US Government General Service Administration took over the station. Finally, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, where plans were turned down that did not include the main terminal building until a group of investors with a plan to finance the renovation with a luxury hotel. This failed into bankruptcy until a new investor took the hotel out of bankruptcy with lower room rates and ninety percent occupancy.
In 2012 Union Station became part of the Marriott International's Autograph Collection Hotel!
Stop by taking a look. The staff loves talking about the hotel and its history, including the bell boy!
