Description
A Mute Swan Family
This Mute Swan couple and their cygnets can be seen at Lake Junaluska North Carolina in Maggie Valley.
Facts about Mute Swan.
*Did you know that Europeans brought mute swans to North America during the late 1800s and early 1900s? Europeans believed swans added to the beauty of lakes and ponds.
*Did you also know Mute swans have a big appetite? They are constantly eating. They primarily eat water plants and may graze on short grass.
*Another fun fact is swans mate for life and usually do not break up unless one dies.
At Lake Junaluska, the swans and other fowl are fed by a person who is in charge of their care. The area has signs up throughout the lake not to feed the swans or other birds since most people tend to feed bread or crackers which is bad for birds like rice.
The muted swans only pair to have offspring this year and we hope they will survive and add to the beauty of Lake Junaluska.
