Description
American Toads In Love II
Ran into this pair of American toads in the act of procreating along the outside of Italian Gardens pond which overflowed. You can see their eggs she is laying all around the toads.
American toads breed between February to April creating long parallel strands that resemble strands of black beads. The eggs take approximately seven to 10 days before their eggs hatch unless they absorb more heat, which accelerates the process. Toads undergo metamorphoses on the day of hatching, characterized by loss of the gill pouch, and digestive adaptations that help them to thrive on land.
