Description
Biltmore Winter Garden
The Biltmore winter garden houses plants in the mountains of western North Carolina, designed by Richard Morris Hunt as a place to escape from the winter months or rainy days. Can you picture George, Edith, and Cornelia Vanderbilt enjoying the Winter Garden surrounded by ferns, orchards, and tropical vegetation as it snows outside? The Winter Garden became a perfect place for George W. Vanderbilt, who commissioned the original sculpture by Karl Theodore Francis Bitter "Boy Stealing Geese." It said the artist Bitter's had a pet goose while growing up named, Fifi.
